Two minority candidates made history Tuesday in Washington state.

Democrat Pramila Jayapal defeated fellow progressive Brady Walkinshaw to win the 7th Congressional District. She will be the first Indian-American woman elected to Congress.

Meanwhile, Cyrus Habib, a Democrat from Bellevue, defeated conservative-radio host and pastor Marty McClendon to win the office of lieutenant governor.

Habib becomes the nation’s highest-ranking Iranian-American elected to office.
